Bayern took a huge step towards the Champions League quarter finals after humiliating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge Tuesday night. Der Rekordmeister will return to Munich with a three goal lead after beating the Blues 3-0.
The match remained scoreless until the second half. Sergio Gnabry accounted for Bayern’s first two goals. Gnabry opened the score after he took advantage of Azplicueta slipping in an unfortunate position in the 51st minute. Just three minutes later, he doubled the score from a quick attack.
Lewandowski gave the final blow in the 76th minute. After a poorly timed sliding tackle by Christensen, Canadian wingback Davies ran past the Danish defender and laid the ball of to Lewandowski, who tapped the ball in the back of the net.
The Polish striker has now scored eleven goals this Champions League campaign. This is more than any player, including Erling Haaland who following close after him with a total of ten goals this year.
Bayern can knock out Chelsea March 18, when Chelsea visits Munich for the second leg.
