Bayern needs a late goal to get past bottom-of-the-league Paderborn

Bayern nearly made a slip up against Padern, who are sitting at the bottom of the league at the Allianz Arena friday night. A game that should have been an easy win for Bayern on paper, turned out to not be as easy as the home team expected. It required an 88th minute goal for der Rekordmeister to seal the win

Serge Gnabry opened the score for Bayern after a shot from inside of the box. After a pass from French midfielder Corentin Tolisso, Gnabry dribbled past the Paderborn defense and finished the ball in the bottom right corner.

Bayern was looking to go into halftime a lead, but Paderborn profited from a big mistake by Neuer a minute before halftime. After a long pass forward towards the right wing from the Paderborn defense, Neuer decided to get outside of the box to kick the ball away. However, Dennis Srbeny beat Neuer to it and dribbled past Neuer. Srbeny cut inside to the box, dribbling and shooting the baall past the Bayern defenders who were trying to defend the open goal.

Worldclass striker Robert Lewandowski brought Bayern up again in the second half. Gnabry passed the ball back to Lewandowski, who put the ball in the back of the net. Bayern could not celebrate for too long. Five minutes after Lewandowski’s goal, Serge Gnabry lost posession on the halfway line after an atrocious first touched. Paderborn got past the Bayern defense from a quick counter, with Dennis Jastrzembski being one-on-one with Neuer. The Bayern goalkeeper saved his shot, but that was not enough as Sven Michel finished the rebound.

It took a goal in the 88th minute for Bayern to not waste valuable points against relegation candidate Paderborn. Lewandowski scored his second goal of the night from a low cross by Gnabry from the left wing. With this win, Bayern solidifies their lead over RB Leipzig. Bayern is now four points clear from Leipzig, who have one in hand. After today’s game, Lewandowski is now five goals clear from RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner in the top scorers table. The Pole scored his 24th & 25th goal tonight.
